SK Innovation's ad attracts 10 million viewers
SK Innovation’s advertisement expressed in the traditional Turkish art form “ebru” has been seen by more than 10 million viewers as of this week, the oil refiner said Wednesday.
Better known as marbling here, ebru creates colorful patterns by sprinkling and brushing pigments onto a pan of oily water and then transferring the patterns to paper.
The Seoul-based company created the advertisement under the theme “Big Picture of Innovation,” collaborating with Turkish artist Garip Ay, who has actively worked for global enterprises in Poland and Malaysia.
The nation’s first ebru-style advertisement was unveiled in April via the company’s official blog, Facebook account, cable TV channels, newspapers and baseball stadium scoreboards.
It was viewed by more than 1 million internet users, in just 10 days after its release.
Last year, the company’s previous PR video, which depicted artist Kim Jung-gi’s performance where he is drawing, also reached over 10 million views on Facebook and Youtube.
SK Innovation attributed the achievements of the two videos under the same theme “Big Picture of Innovation” to the company’s collaboration with artists.
“The art form of ebru can illustrate the characteristics of the refining and chemical company with an innovative visual,” said Daehong Communications creative director Jung Young-sang, who was in charge of producing SK Innovation’s latest advertisement.
“As the advertisement keeps mentioning the words fact and impact, the words have become buzzwords on social media.”
Celebrating its achievement of attracting 10 million viewers, SK Innovation has begun to collect personal stories about travel and vacation from social media users. The company will have a drawing with 1,000 winners and will offer them free Iced Americano.
“We are mulling over various ways to promote SK Innovation,” the company’s public relations head Lim Su-gil said. “We are considering collaborating with experts in music and art in the second half of this year.”
