SK affiliate, Chinese firm sign MOU for battery partnership in Europe, North America

SEOUL, Feb. 27 (Yonhap) — SK IE Technology Co. (SKIET), a South Korean battery separator company, said Thursday it has signed an initial pact with a Chinese battery maker for cooperation in the European and North American battery markets.

SKIET has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China’s Gotion to collaborate in supplying batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems (ESSs) in Europe and North America, the company said in a press release.

“The strategic partnership with Gotion will generate business synergies for both companies in the global EV and ESS markets,” a company official said in the release.

SKIET plans to provide battery separators to Gotion’s battery plants under construction in Slovakia and Illinois in the United States.

SKIET is an affiliate of SK Innovation Co., which has the battery-making affiliate SK On Co.
