The South Korean battery maker signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Honda and the city government of Hanoi to install battery swapping systems (BSS) for electric motorcycles in the central city, the company said.
BSS are infrastructure networks where electric motorcycle riders can instantly swap a depleted battery for a fully charged one, rather than waiting hours to recharge.
Under the agreement, the three entities will install around 50 BSS stations across Hanoi and deploy around 500 units of e-motorcycles to test them, starting in the third quarter, LG Energy Solutions added.
Last year, Vietnam’s government announced plans to ban fossil-fuel-powered motorbikes in the capital city of Hanoi in an effort to reduce air pollution.
