SEOUL, July 3 (Yonhap) — A major event aimed at promoting discussions on the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and exchanges between industry officials commenced in Seoul on Friday.
The Global AI Frontiers Symposium 2026, taking place in southern Seoul, brought together officials from AI labs, academic circles and major tech companies, under the theme of “AI Beyond Intelligence: Into the Real World,” the science ministry said.
The event is co-hosted by South Korea’s National AI Research Lab and the Global AI Frontier Lab, a strategic international hub for AI research and innovation established in the United States in 2024, under a partnership between the New York University and a consortium of Korean institutions.
Among the keynote speakers are Leslie Pack Kaelbling, an American roboticist and a Panasonic professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Noam Brown, a researcher at OpenAI.
This year’s event is also attended by major big tech companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity, the ministry added.
“The symposium will be a meaningful event to outline a blueprint for industry-academic convergence, where research of core technologies leads to practical adaption in the industrial sector,” the ministry said.
